Meeting with the Alliance Française of Strasbourg

This week, AIVA students had the opportunity to meet students from the Alliance Française of Strasbourg. A wonderful opportunity to exchange cultures and showcase the art of wine tasting!

Founded in 1883 in Paris, the Alliance Française has been working for 135 years to teach French culture and language to students from all over the world, as part of their studies.

The Alliance Française network is run by more than 15,000 volunteer members and 14,000 employees.

Present in 132 countries, the prestigious network welcomes 600,000 students annually and more than 3.5 million people for its cultural events.

The Alliance Française of Strasbourg was created in 1947. Welcoming around 900 students per year, representing about a hundred nationalities, it has had a recognized school for learning French since 2003, where no less than 52,000 hours of courses are given each year!

It is a true intercultural crossroads, a school open to the world.

The Alliance Française has set itself three essential missions:

  • Offering French courses, in France and around the world, to all audiences
  • To raise awareness of French and Francophone cultures
  • Promoting cultural diversity

AIVA students were able to contribute to the project's objectives by introducing their international peers to the art of wine tasting through three specially selected wines:

A Riesling Grand Cru Rangen de Thann Martin Schaetzel by Kirrenbourg from 2016, a Gewurtztraminer Grand Cru Zinnkoepflé Martin Schaetzel from 2015, and an Arôme de Pavie, second wine from Pavie, Grand Cru Classé A from Saint-Émilion, in 2014.

For many international students, it was their very first time discovering French wine. In a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, everyone was able to share their experiences, ask questions, and do so in several languages!

Here are some photos to illustrate these beautiful moments:
