Level 3 Award in Wines

The Level 3 Award in Wines is the advanced WSET certification, designed for professionals and enthusiasts who already possess a solid knowledge base. Delivered over five days at AIVA, the International Wine Academy in Landersheim, Alsace, it teaches participants how to accurately evaluate wine and master the factors of its production, from terroir to bottling — an internationally recognized level.

This level 3 training, recognized nationally and internationally, is aimed at professionals or enthusiasts who already have a solid base of wine knowledge.

Upon completion of this training, you will be able to accurately evaluate a wine by using your knowledge.

You will also discover the key factors involved in wine production, from terroir to bottling.

Funding

WSET courses are listed in the inventory of certifications of the National Commission for Professional Certification (CNCP). The International Wine Academy in Alsace is one of the few French centers to be an approved WSET program provider. If you wish to finance your WSET training through France Travail, the Region, or your company's OPCO (Skills Operator), please contact us.

Target Audience & Prerequisites

Who is it aimed at? This training?

There are no specific prerequisites to join this training program.
However, we recommend this training to those who have good knowledge in the field of wine, to those who wish to perfect their tasting methods, or to those in professional retraining wishing to work in wine.

Organization

How is it organized? The training?

5 days of training (i.e., 35 hours)

The training takes place over five 7-hour days at AIVA's site in Landersheim, Alsace. An intensive and friendly format, ideal for discovering wine without having to commit your schedule for several weeks.

About ten wines were tasted.

Around ten wines, specially selected for the training, are tasted throughout the day. Each tasting concretely illustrates the styles, grape varieties and analytical methods covered in class.

A WSET booklet for each

Each participant receives a WSET booklet: full details of the course, explanatory photos, vineyard maps, vocabulary and methodology, as well as blank pages for your tasting notes.

Studying with a disability

AIVA school premises are fully equipped to accommodate a person with a disability. Depending on the type of disability, we will implement the necessary measures and adapt our teaching conditions.

Details

Practical information

The exam, in 2 parts, lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes:

– 1 theoretical part consisting of a 50-question multiple-choice questionnaire and a series of questions requiring short answers (30 min)

– 1 practical part consisting of a blind tasting of 2 wines (2 hours)

To succeed, the candidate must have correctly answered 55% questions in each of the theoretical and practical tests. 

This course is accredited by the British regulatory body Ofqual.
Upon successful completion of the exam, you will be awarded a certificate and a WSET badge.

If you fail the exam, it is possible to retake it later.

Here is an example of questions that may be asked on the exam:

1)  The closed wine of the shoot is a: 

a) Volnay grand cru 

b) Vougeot Premier Cru 

c) Volnay Premier Cru 

d) Volnay second cru 

2)   Which of these answers is correct? 

a) Saint-Joseph is made from Cinsault grapes

b) Sauternes wines are made exclusively from Sémillon grapes

c) Côte-Rôtie is made from Viognier.  

d) Merlot is found in large quantities in Loire wines.

The fee for the WSET® Level 3 Wine Diploma is 1350 €, payable on the site in two installments upon registration.

No other fees will be required during your training.

  • The training is guaranteed with a minimum of 7 registrations. Otherwise, you will be notified by email approximately 2 weeks before the start of the session. You will then have the option to choose another date or receive a refund.
